It all began as a daughter watched her mother fight breast cancer and found out that complementary integrative therapies were not covered by most health care plans. It made her realize that the treatments helping her mother feel better and aid her recovery were not accessible to underserved women with cancer. The Breastfest, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was born as a way to help raise money to ensure that access and support CMC.
In July 2000, the first Breastfest was held on Larkspur Landing in Marin, hosting 16 local microbreweries. 17 years later, it has grown to welcome over 35 breweries, local food purveyors and Bay Area musicians who all join together to fundraise for CMC and help Bay Area low-income women gain access to compassionate integrative cancer care.
“There’s no better cause to raise a glass to,” says Brendan Moylan, owner of Moylan’s Brewery and the event’s major sponsor.
